Why use 3d Printing? Need some convincing?

Finding parts for classic or discontinued boats is a common challenge solved by modern 3D printing. While not a budget alternative to mass-produced items, this technology is far more economical than custom machining, especially for obsolete components.

For many mariners, it’s the only viable way to source a durable, precise-fitting part that restores function and perfectly matches your vessel’s aesthetic. Investing in a 3D-printed component is the smart, practical solution for that impossible-to-find piece, getting you back on the water where you belong.

Dorade Project

Many older boat parts are no longer available, especially decorative and utilitarian parts. Most engine and rigging hardware is very standardized and easily replaceable, but many other items are impossible to locate once worn out or broken.

The Dorade bases for this 57-year-old boat, of which only 6 of 25 still exist, are not remotely available. The only way to replace them is to create them. Having them injection molded or built by a machine shop would have them cost $1000s of dollars if even possible. 3D printing is a perfect solution to this issue.Ā
